Movie Review: Transformers 8: Rise of Unicron (2025)
“When gods awaken, worlds fall.”

The eighth installment of the Transformers saga, Rise of Unicron, roars onto screens with its biggest, darkest, and most ambitious chapter yet. Directed by Steven Caple Jr., this epic sequel raises the stakes to galactic proportions as the Autobots and their human allies face their greatest enemy: Unicron, a planet-sized, ancient god of chaos and consumption.

Picking up after the events of Transformers: Rise of the Beasts (2023), Optimus Prime and his team must forge uneasy alliances—including one with the Decepticons—to stop the impending arrival of Unicron, whose emergence threatens to devour not only Earth but all life in the galaxy. At the heart of the story is a mysterious Cybertronian relic discovered by a new human character, played with surprising emotional depth by Kaitlyn Dever, which holds the secret to Unicron’s origin—and possibly his undoing.
Visually, Rise of Unicron is a spectacular overload of high-octane action, sprawling alien vistas, and jaw-dropping transformations. The film features some of the best CGI in the franchise to date, with battle scenes spanning from moon bases to ancient submerged cities. A standout moment includes a zero-gravity skirmish between Bumblebee and a corrupted Autobot inside Unicron’s core—a dazzling display of choreography and chaos.

But it’s not all metal mayhem. This film brings surprising emotional weight. Optimus Prime (voiced again by Peter Cullen) wrestles with guilt and duty, while the villainous Megatron (reimagined with nuance and dread) faces a redemption arc as he too fears Unicron’s power. Even the Maximals and Predacons return, now more deeply woven into the plot, bringing lore-rich context to the battle between primal instincts and survival.
That said, the film occasionally struggles under the weight of its own mythology. With so many factions, subplots, and interstellar lore threads, casual audiences might feel overwhelmed. However, longtime fans of the franchise will likely revel in the dense storytelling and cosmic stakes.
Final Verdict: ★★★★☆ (4/5)
Transformers 8: Rise of Unicron is a bold, explosive, and emotionally resonant entry that dares to elevate the franchise from popcorn spectacle to sci-fi epic. For those who crave robot battles with a side of apocalypse—this is your movie.
