š¬ Movie Review: Extraction 3 (2025)
āSome missions never end. They just reload.ā
Chris Hemsworth is back as black ops mercenary Tyler Rake in Extraction 3, the third installment of Netflixās signature action franchise. With Sam Hargrave once again in the directorās chair and the Russo Brothers involved as producers, the film delivers exactly what fans expect: gritty violence, relentless pacing, and action sequences that defy logic, physics, and occasionally, gravity.

This time, Rakeās mission takes him into the jungles of Southeast Asia, where heās tasked with rescuing a group of foreign aid workers kidnapped by a paramilitary death squad tied to a powerful drug cartel. But thereās more than meets the eyeāone of the hostages is someone from Rakeās haunted past, forcing him to confront not just armed enemies, but emotional ones.
As always, the action is the franchiseās biggest selling point. Extraction 3 features a mind-blowing 23-minute āone-shotā sequence that moves from a river ambush to a helicopter rooftop battle without a visible cut. The stunt work is top-tier, with Hemsworth fully committed to the roleāpunching, kicking, and bleeding his way through wave after wave of attackers.

While the first two films emphasized brute-force rescue ops, this entry leans more into guerrilla warfare tactics, giving Rake more time to use strategy and stealth. The pacing allows for a little more character development, particularly between Rake and a young soldier forced to fight on the wrong side of the war. Their dynamic adds some heart to the carnage.
That said, the plot still follows a predictable patternācapture, escape, betrayal, redemption. The emotional moments land better than in previous entries, but donāt expect Oscar-level writing. Still, what it lacks in narrative innovation, Extraction 3 makes up for in sheer intensity and stunning fight choreography. Hemsworth once again proves heās more than just Thorāheās become a full-on action legend.
